Gear geometry determines the load path

Bearing positions
input, intermediate and output shafts and gear supports.
Arrangement differences
the deck lists deep-groove balls/cylindrical rollers for spur gears; helical gears add axial loading and use angular-contact balls, tapered or spherical rollers; internal meshes use cylindrical, tapered or spherical rollers.
Engineering focus
radial/axial load directions, locating/floating supports and shaft deflection from meshing.
Provide
gear geometry, ratio, torque, shaft position, support spacing and rotation direction.
Stage-specific wind gearboxes

Bearing positions
carriers, planet gears, low- and high-speed shafts.
Arrangement
single-row tapered carrier bearings, outer-ring-free cylindrical planet supports, and NU cylindrical rollers with paired tapers on shaft positions.
Conditions
low-speed heavy loads coexist with high-speed friction and temperature rise; a single speed/life figure cannot describe the whole gearbox.
Engineering focus
stage-specific load spectra, profiles, axial support, oil supply and housing deflection.
Steel-mill main drives: shocks and torque

Equipment positions
bar, section and plate main reducers and converter tilting drives.
Conditions
high power/torque, shocks and overturning moments with process-dependent loads.
Arrangement
full-complement cylindrical and spherical-roller examples.
Engineering focus
roller contact profiles, friction, precision and housing stiffness, together with installation and maintenance access.
Cement drives: mills and roller presses

Equipment positions
ball-mill, roller-press and vertical-mill reducers.
Conditions
combined loads, shocks and continuous duty, with lubrication cleanliness and thermal balance affecting reliability.
Arrangement
cylindrical, tapered and spherical rollers combined for the specific shaft position.
Engineering focus
contact profiles and cage structure/weight; assess life with actual meshing loads and duty spectra. Design hours in the deck are project-specific targets.
Marine and general industrial reducers

Equipment positions
marine drives and general industrial reducer shafts.
Conditions
marine examples emphasise stability, vibration, speed and corrosion; general reducers require load and envelope identification first.
Engineering focus
surface treatment, operating clearance, lubrication and mounting precision matched to duty.
Provide
shaft arrangement, operating conditions and original designation; distinguish like-for-like replacement from redesign.
Design optimisation: end contact and compact supports

Single-row tapered rollers
the deck shows surface roughness and roller-end/rib optimisation addressing noise and scuffing.
Outer-ring-free full-complement cylindrical rollers
compact planetary supports require attention to roller contact and rib/shoulder stresses.
Large thin-section tapered rollers
wind-bearing steels and profiles control contact distribution.
Scope
these are design approaches; a specific designation still requires matching drawings, material and duty.
Information for an application enquiry
Equipment and position
machine model, mounting position and complete bearing designation with suffixes. For replacements, include the original arrangement and fit dimensions.
Operating records
bearing speed in rpm, radial and axial loads, shocks and starts/stops. Paper-web and rolling-line speeds are not bearing rotational speeds.
Lubrication and assembly
lubricant grade, oil supply or relubrication records, temperature, mounted clearance or preload, seals and contamination.
Problem and objective
temperature rise, noise, vibration or flaking, timing, photographs and maintenance records, plus the outage window or redesign objective.
