Define the issue and the meaning of inputs
Define the task
distinguish emergency replacement, spare planning and an arrangement change. Provide the full original designation/suffix, parameter sheet, mounting drawing and duty records. A matching base designation or size does not establish interchangeability.
Jaw, cone and impact crushers

Jaw crushers
moving-jaw/frame spherical supports under impacts and shaft deflection, grease lubricated in the deck.
Cone crushers
spherical/tapered combinations with circulating oil; assess contamination, heat balance and contact stress.
Impact crushers
spherical supports with oil-bath/circulation, addressing temperature and cages under faster impact duty.
Design direction
split cages, lubrication openings and contact profiles; keep the three duty/lubrication regimes separate.
Roller presses: heavy radial and axial loads

Position
press-roller supports.
Arrangement
four-row cylindrical rollers with paired spherical-roller thrust or double-direction tapered thrust supports, plus paired spherical alternatives.
Conditions
low-speed heavy loads, misalignment and shocks with central grease supply; relate edge wear to roller-system deflection.
Engineering focus
case-carburised/adapted materials, profiles, cages and lubrication paths, separating radial support from axial restraint.
Vertical and coal mills: rollers and preload

Vertical mills
spherical/cylindrical or double-row tapered/cylindrical combinations, with forced-oil lubrication in the deck.
Coal mills
spherical combinations or paired tapers depending on design.
Issues
assess skew loading, inadequate preload, lubrication and heat with assembly evidence.
Engineering focus
material/heat treatment, roller contact, pin/solid cages; provide mill type, position, oil temperature and clearance.
Follow an evidence-based inspection path
Comparison path
compare size, rolling arrangement, cage, seals, accuracy, clearance/preload, load ratings and lubricant-specific speed data. Then review location, adjacent parts and maintenance requirements. Record missing items, differences and verification actions before recommending a replacement.
Information for a technical enquiry
Equipment and position
machine model, mounting position and complete bearing designation with suffixes. For replacements, include the original arrangement and fit dimensions.
Operating records
bearing speed in rpm, radial and axial loads, shocks and starts/stops. Paper-web and rolling-line speeds are not bearing rotational speeds.
Lubrication and assembly
lubricant grade, oil supply or relubrication records, temperature, mounted clearance or preload, seals and contamination.
Problem and objective
temperature rise, noise, vibration or flaking, timing, photographs and maintenance records, plus the outage window or redesign objective.
Record a practical verification plan
Record drawing/reference versions, original duty, proposed changes, verification methods and results. Separate observations, hypotheses and verified conclusions. Follow equipment procedures; do not exceed operating limits to gather test data.
