Iron/steelmaking: slewing, tilting and maintenance

Distributors
four-point-contact slewing supports with heat, sealing and contamination concerns.
Sinter/torpedo cars
double-row tapered and other wheel supports under loads/shocks.
Converters
integral spherical rollers at the operating side and split spherical designs at the drive side; tilting drives have separate cylindrical/tapered arrangements.
Engineering focus
split designs support maintenance access but still require load, fit and replacement-space assessment.
Continuous casting: heat, steam and deflection

Positions
mould, segment rollers and ladle turrets.
Roller arrangements
full-complement cylindrical, needle, spherical/single-row self-aligning, three-ring and water-cooled split options according to position/envelope.
Turrets
three-row cylindrical slewing and self-lubricating plain supports under alternating overturning loads.
Engineering focus
thermal stability, sealing, operating clearance, lubrication and roller thermal deflection; distinguish bearing from ambient temperature.
Hot strip/plate: work and backup rolls
Positions
roughing/finishing work rolls and backup rolls.
Arrangement
four-row tapered or cylindrical bearings with double-row tapered/thrust supports; oil-film backup rolls have dedicated large-angle tapered locating arrangements.
Conditions
rolling forces, shocks, speed and coolant ingress; treat radial and axial loading separately.
Engineering focus
material/heat treatment, mounted clearance, lubrication and sealing; finishing precision requirements are not identical for every position.
Sections, bars/wire and guide rollers

Universal mills
different horizontal/vertical roll arrangements using four-row cylindrical or double/four-row tapered supports.
Bar mills
separate radial support and axial location in roughing/intermediate/pre-finishing stands.
Guides/wire finishing
derive actual bearing rpm from line speed and assess cages, lubrication and sealing.
Engineering focus
m/s is not rpm; use roll diameter and drive relationships, preserving position-specific suffixes and precision grades.
Cold rolling and Sendzimir: precision and matching

Cold rolling
four-row cylindrical/tapered and side-support arrangements for different stand architectures, with inner-ring machining, precision and clearance concerns.
Sendzimir
two-/three-row cylindrical backup supports with matched section height and rotational precision.
Engineering focus
matched sets, roll-system stiffness, profiles and seals together.
Provide
stand layout, roll position, matching identifiers, installation and grinding records, not a designation alone.
Auxiliaries: straightening, shearing and handling
Straighteners
spherical and sealed double-row full-complement cylindrical alternatives.
Flying shears
cylindrical/tapered rollers with special clearance under start/stop precision duty.
Cooling beds/roller tables
lubrication, clearance and surface protection for low-speed or hot environments.
Crane sheaves
sealed full-complement double-row cylindrical supports.
Engineering focus
auxiliaries have different loads, heat, speeds and maintenance from main stands.
Information for an application enquiry
Equipment and position
machine model, mounting position and complete bearing designation with suffixes. For replacements, include the original arrangement and fit dimensions.
Operating records
bearing speed in rpm, radial and axial loads, shocks and starts/stops. Paper-web and rolling-line speeds are not bearing rotational speeds.
Lubrication and assembly
lubricant grade, oil supply or relubrication records, temperature, mounted clearance or preload, seals and contamination.
Problem and objective
temperature rise, noise, vibration or flaking, timing, photographs and maintenance records, plus the outage window or redesign objective.
