Cutting spindles: location, stiffness and heat

Positions
front/rear spindle supports.
Arrangement
NN/NNU double-row cylindrical rollers with angular-contact balls, and steel/ceramic-ball angular-contact supports for machining centres.
Conditions
speed, cutting load, rotational accuracy and thermal growth jointly determine the arrangement.
Engineering focus
preload, operating clearance, lubrication, cleanliness and mounting accuracy under the actual spindle duty spectrum.
Vertical tables and boring machines

Vertical tables
double-row cylindrical/thrust-ball combinations or crossed rollers for load support and rotational accuracy.
Boring machines
angular-contact spindle supports and crossed cylindrical rotary-table supports, with starting torque and stiffness concerns.
Engineering focus
load centre, overturning moment, preload and thermal growth; specify spindle and table speeds/accuracy separately.
Ball screws: matched thrust angular contacts

Position
locating support at the ball-screw end.
Arrangement
matched thrust angular-contact ball bearings in 7602, 7603 and BSB families.
Engineering focus
matching, prelubrication, sealing and orientation; preload follows the matched set and shaft-end design.
Provide
screw load, feed rate, bearing rpm, spacing, positioning accuracy and envelope.
Rotary tables: combined loads and overturning

Position
the rotary working table.
Arrangement
rotary-table bearings and crossed tapered rollers carrying radial/axial loads and overturning moments.
Engineering focus
mounting-face precision, preload, fits and lubrication; assess compact designs with their connected structure.
Provide
load centre, table speed, accuracy target and interface drawing.
Presses: cyclic impact duty

Conditions
cyclic impacts with transient peaks well above average load.
Design focus
cage strength, heat treatment and permissible axial displacement; mean-load life calculation alone is insufficient.
Provide
stroke, frequency, peak load, support layout, temperature and failed-part photographs.
High-speed structures and cages

Design directions
low-friction cages for double-row cylindrical rollers and smaller balls, lighter cages and raceway optimisation for high-speed angular contacts.
Engineering focus
material, cage, preload and lubrication form a combined solution, evaluated for temperature rise and vibration.
Scope
cage-material temperature capability is not the permissible temperature of the whole bearing; use designation- and lubrication-specific speed data.
Information for an application enquiry
Equipment and position
machine model, mounting position and complete bearing designation with suffixes. For replacements, include the original arrangement and fit dimensions.
Operating records
bearing speed in rpm, radial and axial loads, shocks and starts/stops. Paper-web and rolling-line speeds are not bearing rotational speeds.
Lubrication and assembly
lubricant grade, oil supply or relubrication records, temperature, mounted clearance or preload, seals and contamination.
Problem and objective
temperature rise, noise, vibration or flaking, timing, photographs and maintenance records, plus the outage window or redesign objective.
